St Kentigern's Church, Lanark

St. Kentigerns Church in Lanark is a well known landmark in the town that was built in 1885. In 2005 after years of neglect and disrepair it was converted into townhouses and an office. The rear elevation contains a stunning stained glass window, however the stone walls were rendered after the war covering all of the ornate masonry work underneath. The current owners had problems with internal and external paint decorations literally falling off due to water ingress that got trapped in the stone and bricks. Masonry Kings erected scaffolding to remove all of the old faulty render. After that the mortary was removed and restoration work began. We sanded all of the ornate stonework back to its original glory. Work then moved inside to remove plaster and cement covering the interior walls. Once the stonework was revealed the water dried out almost intantly. Our clients loved the original stonework so much they kept it as a feature wall with exposed stone around the window and exposed brick below. We think it was a great decision.
